Tagetes patula
Also known as Tagetes Marigold, these larger marigold are bursts of sunshine on a plate. Their colours range from sunflower yellow to burnt orange to fire engine red, and sometimes all those colours in one!
French marigold oil is extracted to use in cola.
Used whole as a garnish on cakes or platters but the petals can be used as any other marigolds.
Ideas for use include:
- Sprinkle petals over salads, cheese boards, or baked goods
- Steep in hot water to make a refreshing tea
- Use petals to decorate desserts and cocktails
- Add to ice-cream or ice cubes to bring flair to drinks and sweet dishes
- Garnish fruit platters
- Add to soups, stews and stir-fries
