Warrigal Greens

  • Flavour Profile: Savoury
  • Seasonal Availability: Spring, Summer, and Autumn

Tetragonia tetragonioides

Growing naturally in saline soil along Australia's & New Zealand's coastline, Warrigal Greens have been used in Indigenous cultures for thousands of years.

Also known as Botany Bay Greens, this versatile bush vegetable was one of the first native plants eaten by Captain Cook's crew to prevent scurvy!

The leaves are fleshy and triangular with small yellowish flowers in Spring & Summer. They look and taste like baby spinach.

Warrigal Greens should be blanched or steamed before consumption as they are high in oxalates.

Ideas for uses include:

  • Use steamed with poached fish, protein or other vegetables
  • Make pesto
  • Add to omelettes, salads and stews
  • Use in pies & quiches
  • Replace English Spinach or Kale in your recipe with Warrigal Greens

A fabulous source of fibre, iron and Vitamin C, Warrigal Greens are also rich in anti-oxidants.

Sold by the kilo.

Naturally grown and lovingly picked by hand to exacting standards, here on SA's Fleurieu Peninsula.
